2014 – A year in review of progress

As we start 2015, thought we share a few highlights from last year that were definitely an improvement from the prior year! Please remember we are a 100% volunteer local organization that would be happy to hear your thoughts and suggestions as well as any time you may have to volunteer!! Redondo Beach - Perhaps the largest Bicycle infrastructure project ever in the South Bay as the Harbor and Herondo Gateway Project will not only create new bike lanes, but significantly improve the safety of pedestrians, bicyclists and motorists alike. Manhattan Beach places Sharrows along Manhattan Avenue as well as East Bound along Rosecrans El Segundo approves Sharrows for West Bound Rosecrans Free Bike Education Classes by the SBBC and the BCCC had over 200 adult and child graduates Free Bike Parking as over 10,000 bikes parked for free at multiple  Beach City events Free Bike Safety Pamphlets provided to schools, police, bike shops, etc. Recognition of eight bike friendly businesses in the South Bay Multiple Multiple bike commute/alternative...

Congratulations to SBBC Board Member, Steve Collins, Hermosa Beach Chamber of Commerce Man of the Year

Steve Collins, long-term partner in Hermosa Cyclery and a driving force behind the Fiesta Hermosa bike valets since 2010 was deservedly honored as Man of the Year by the Hermosa Beach Chamber of Commerce on January 12. In addition to his his extraordinary efforts providing support and free services at the twice yearly Hermosa bike valets, Collins also donates dozens of bicycles annually to the Hermosa Beach toy drive among his many community efforts. His organizing work on behalf of cyclists in the Hermosa Beach St. Patrick's Day parade resulted in a huge turnout helping to greatly increase our visibility in town. Steve's parents, his wife, Debbie, and his sister were all on hand at Union Cattle to see him receive his award as were two of his Hermosa Cyclery partners and fellow SBBC Board Member, Joe Galliani. Join us April 16 for our Earth Day Bike Ride & Celebration!

Mark your calendars and save the date of Saturday, April 16 so that you can join us at the 19th Annual Earth Day Celebration and Concert put on by VOICE at Polliwog Park in Manhattan Beach. We'll kick of the day celebrating clean, green zero emission bicycle transportation with a family friendly, casual paced, one-mile long Bicycle Ride to the park.  This police motorcycle-escorted ride last year was a huge hit with everyone who participated, so be sure to join us this year. SBBC Helps With Another Hermosa Beach Bike Corral

On Saturday, November 13 in support of the Grand Reopening of Pier Avenue the South Bay Bicycle Coalition once again teamed up with the Hermosa Beach Chamber of Commerce and Hermosa Cyclery to offer a free bike corral for bike riding visitors to the event.
